Pharmacotherapy for Cardiovascular Disorders

…heart disease remains the No. 1 killer in America; nearly half of all Americans have high blood pressure, high cholesterol, or smoke—some of the leading risk factors for heart disease…

—Murphy et al., 2018

Despite the high mortality rates associated with cardiovascular disorders, improved treatment options do exist that can help address those risk factors that afflict the majority of the population today.

As an advanced practice nurse, it is your responsibility to recommend appropriate treatment options for patients with cardiovascular disorders. To ensure the safety and effectiveness of drug therapy, advanced practice nurses must consider aspects that might influence pharmacokinetic and pharmacodynamic processes such as medical history, other drugs currently prescribed, and individual patient factors.

To Prepare

  • Review the Resources for this module and consider the impact of potential pharmacotherapeutics for cardiovascular disorders introduced in the media piece.
  • Review the case study assigned by your Instructor for this Assignment.
  • Select one the following factors: genetics, gender, ethnicity, age, or behavior factors.
  • Reflect on how the factor you selected might influence the patient’s pharmacokinetic and pharmacodynamic processes.
  • Consider how changes in the pharmacokinetic and pharmacodynamic processes might impact the patient’s recommended drug therapy.
  • Think about how you might improve the patient’s drug therapy plan based on the pharmacokinetic and pharmacodynamic changes. Reflect on whether you would modify the current drug treatment or provide an alternative treatment option for the patient.

Write a  paper that addresses the following:

  • Explain how the factor you selected might influence the pharmacokinetic and pharmacodynamic processes in the patient from the case study you were assigned.
  • Describe how changes in the processes might impact the patient’s recommended drug therapy. Be specific and provide examples.
  • Explain how you might improve the patient’s drug therapy plan and explain why you would make these recommended improvements.

MONITORING AND CONTROLLING

Practice monitoring and controlling for one project you select from one of two case studies. Please review the Competencies, Scenario, Requirements, Rubric listed below. Also, read both case studies and choose one for the project.

Knowledge of IT project management is needed for the writer.

Explain Elements of a Curriculum Framework

Elements of a Curriculum Framework include a philosophy of education (worldview position), and philosophies of teaching (instruction) and learning (the meaning of and taxonomy for knowing). This week’s application assignment centers upon a philosophy of teaching. You will write a philosophy of instruction (teaching) that is no longer than 2.5 to 3.0 double spaced pages. Longer is not better. Less is better if you can cover everything with fewer words.

Include:

The theoretical basis for teaching within your institution is identified. Your philosophy should refer to current educational learning theories that are reflected in your school’s practices.

Should answer the questions:

How does the school define learning?

When has learning occurred?

How does this relate to the school’s mission and vision?

A biblical perspective or biblical support for the theoretical basis(your choice from above) was presentedYour philosophy would thus be biblically integrated. As an alternative you may start with a biblical philosophy and then provide alignment with or integrate it with current learning theories or “best practice”.

Should answer the questions:

What is the biblical meaning of to know or to learn

In what way or ways does a biblical philosophy align with current learning theory or best practices? Is there compatibility or alignment?

The role or responsibility of the teacher.

Should answer the question:

What are the responsibilities of the teacher?

The role or responsibility of the student.

Should answer the question:

What is the role of the student during instruction?

Instructional methods (these might be included in the previous two sections- teacher and student).

Should answer the question:

What instructional methods should be used?

The nature of the instructional environment.

Should answer the question:

Does the environment have a role in instruction? What role does it play?

The philosophy should be written as the school’s philosophy, as opposed to a personal philosophy, since this would be used within the school’s curriculum framework.

The philosophy of teaching might be level specific since there might be developmental differences between school divisions (early education, elementary, middle school and high school). If a divisional philosophy, then identify level in the introductory paragraph the philosophy.

Application of Teaching Methods

Throughout the week you have been examining the teaching methods of Jesus along with other “best practices”. Jesus had creator knowledge of how one learns and thus could teach in accordance with His design. Paul was another exemplar of effective teaching. He proclaimed, admonished, and taught everyone in order to present them fully mature in Christ (Colossians 1:28). In light of his fruitful ministry, an examination of his dispositions and methods can shed further light upon a biblical model for teaching. Begin this assignment by studying Paul as a teacher. What were the skills, methods of instruction, relationships to students, personal dispositions, and assessment strategies that he used as a means to accomplish his mission?

Your primary resource should be the biblical text, but feel free to do additional research. Present your conclusions by creating a list of biblical teaching strategies or practices based upon your observations of Paul. Your list should reflect methods, teacher-student relationships, teacher dispositions, means of assessment, etc. (feel free to add an additional category). With each item provide a biblical reference that supports your statement or related statements (note that in the example there were two elements related to the same text). Provide a minimum of fifteen to twenty strategies or practices.

Example

An examination of Paul, the apostle, missionary and teacher, demonstrates effective teaching in that he:

Was clear about desired outcomes

Prayed that these outcomes might be accomplished in the lives of students

Colossians 1:9-12

business communications, designing a leaflet

After the Covid pandemic, life is slowly going back to normal. However, new cases are still occurring and as a result the UK government wants to encourage everyone to get vaccinated as quickly as possible.

However not everyone is keen to be vaccinated and there are a range of reasons that are preventing people from arranging their appointment. The government is designing a 2-page leaflet as part of a pro-vaccination campaign to distribute around communities. This leaflet needs to outline the barriers – reasons that are preventing people taking the vaccine, the strategies – how they hope to persuade people to take it and show cultural awareness – so that all communities feel represented.

The government has identified the following reasons that people do not want to take the vaccine:

  • Physical barriers – People are unsure how to book a vaccine and the think test centres are very far away and inconvenient to get to.
  • Emotional barriers – People are scared and do not trust in the vaccine because it is new and relatively untested and, they are worried they will get sick. They are worried to go to the vaccine centre because they want to avoid contact with other people.
  • Information barriers – Not much is known about the effects of the vaccine, people do not know which vaccine to take. There is a lot of negative publicity in the media.
  • Attitudinal barriers – Some people are resistant to change and feel it is riskier to take the vaccine as they do not think they have a high chance of getting Covid.
  • Cultural barriers – A lot of people living in the UK are not confident in their English ability but most information about the vaccine is only available in English and most nurses giving the vaccine only speak English. Some cultures are more anxious about the vaccine than others.

Design a new two-page leaflet and provide accompanying notes to support your ideas in more detail. The accompanying notes should not exceed 500 words. Please provide references. Marks will be awarded for achieving the learning outcomes and your ability to provide a well-designed leaflet and notes.

In your two-page leaflet and notes, you should highlight:

  • Common challenges and barriers to effective communication
  • Effective strategies for overcoming communication barriers.
