READING AND USING THE ANNUAL REPORT CASE STUDY

Prior to beginning work on this discussion forum, read Chapters 1 and 2 in your course textbook, Using Financial Accounting Information: The Alternative to Debits and Credits.

Select a company of interest that trades on the New York Stock Exchange (NYSE). The annual report can be found on your selected company’s website, usually under the heading “Investor Relations.” Select a company that a fellow student has not already posted. Note that you will use this same company for future discussions in this class.

Retrieve the latest two annual reports, then complete the following:

Calculate the current ratio and profit margin ratio for the latest two years, and interpret the results. Then, explain what the ratios over the 2 years tell you.
Locate the Management Discussion and Analysis comments in the latest annual report, and discuss the main points in your own words.
Locate the Auditor’s Report in the latest annual report, and discuss the opinion given and who conducted the audit.
Based on this initial quick review, provide your assessment of your chosen company.

The State Judicial Selection and Removal Process

Each state within the United States has its own unique judicial selection process within its own court system. Each state also has unique steps that can be taken to remove a judge from office for disciplinary reasons. In this assignment, you will detail your state’s judicial selection and removal process.
Using the Internet or Strayer University Online Library, research the judicial selection process for different court systems from different states within the U.S. Court System.
Write a paper in which you:
Discuss the judicial selection process of your state and one other state. Include, at a minimum, the qualifications and steps that are taken in order to select judges for the different kinds of courts (Supreme Court, Courts of Appeals, Bankruptcy Appellate Panels, District Courts, Bankruptcy Courts, and Article I Courts) within your specific state.
Next, identify the steps that the relevant persons/entities need to take in order to remove a judge from office for disciplinary reasons for each state.
What impact do you think the qualifications of a judge, and the potential for disciplinary action, have on judicial decision making?
Provide three quality sources—the textbook may be used as one reference source.
This course requires the use of Strayer Writing Standards. For assistance and information, please refer to the Strayer Writing Standards link in the left-hand menu of your course.

Explain the function of the American court system in its operational role within the government, the rule of law, and society.

SOCIAL ISSUE ANALYSIS AND RESPONSE

Specialists in communication are often hired to clean up problems created by unthoughtful messaging. While advocates dedicate significant amounts of time and energy promoting causes, they often struggle to clearly identify their logical positions. To further the problem, in light of clear arguments advocates commonly utilize informal fallacies to persuade their target audiences. These weaknesses tend to create easily avoidable communications crises. The first step is to identify the communicative problems.

For this assignment, identify a social issue you are personally interested in learning more about, advocating for the cause, or are against it, and identify fallacious reasoning.

In 750-1,000 words:

Research an advocate (individual or organization) that promotes a relevant social issue. Identify the organization and explain the relevancy of the social issue.
Show the steps you took to translate the position/argument you researched into a clear logical form by writing out the logical premises and conclusions from the material presented by the advocate.
Identify a minimum of five informal fallacies that are made by the advocate. Explain the fallacies themselves and how each functions.
At least two academic peer-reviewed sources are required for this paper.

SIDE BAR SCENARIOS

Side Bar Considering Malpractice
Consider this example of a medical malpractice action: Two EMTs are called to transport an elderly male from a nursing home to the local hospital. They arrive at the scene and observe that the patient is morbidly obese and has a BiPAP in place. The patient is in respiratory distress. The EMTs place an O2 saturation detector on the mans finger and see that his O2 saturation is only 84 percent. The patient is moved to a stretcher, and the EMTs attempt to intubate him after administering a paralytic through IV tubing that was placed by the nursing home staff. One of the EMTs misses the first intubation and must ventilate the patient for 2 to 3 minutes with a bag-valve mask. Both EMTs reattempt the intubation two more times, and on the third try, using an endotracheal tube with a lit stylet, they believe that they are in the trachea but fail to confirm placement of the tube following local protocol. The transport time is 15 more minutes. At the time of arrival at the emergency room (ER), the ER physician discovers the tube placement is in the esophagus, so he reintubates the patient, who immediately goes into cardiac arrest and dies.
Review the following two Side Bar scenarios in your textbook and choose one for the basis of your assignment:
Considering Malpractice (p. 7) or
EMT Response and Motor Vehicle Law (p. 13).
NOTE: You will continue to use this same scenario in Unit III and IV as the basis for a course project that concludes in Unit VII.
For this assignment, pretend you are the aide for a defense attorney representing the EMS agency in the selected case. You will need to analyze the scenario and prepare a brief for the attorney on your findings. (If you choose the second case, the subject in the scenario should not be taken in the first-person context, but rather just as an EMT provider.)
Consider the scenario as if the organization you are representing were in your own state and focus on the relevance of your states laws to the scenario. You may consider locating a past similar case to help guide your briefing.
Your paper at a minimum should address the following questions:
Is this a case that would most likely be tried in a civil or criminal court? Why?
What are three questions that you feel must be answered by the personnel involved before you can begin to prepare a defense?
Identify the difference in scope and responsibility of any federal, state, or local laws and regulations that would impact the outcome of the case.
How would you demonstrate that the personnel involved were aware of these laws or regulations?

The Impact of Social Policy

Social policies can have a significant impact on individuals and families, as well as the organizations and agencies that implement the policies. In some cases, the policy, as written, appears comprehensive and effective. Yet, despite appearances, the policy might fail to be effective as a result of improper implementation, interpretation, and/or application of the policy. As a social worker, how might you reduce the potential negative impact faulty social policies might have on organizations and agencies, as well as the populations you serve?

For this Discussion, review this week’s resources, including cases “Working with Immigrants and Refugees: The Case of Luisa” and “Social Work Policy: Benefit Administration and Provision.” Then, select either of the cases and consider how the social welfare policies presented in the case influenced the problems facing Luisa or Tessa. Finally, think about how policies affect social agencies and how social workers work with clients such as Tessa or Luisa.

Post an explanation of the effects of the social welfare policies presented in the case study you selected on Luisa or Tessa. Be specific and reference the case study you selected in your post. Finally, explain how policies affect social agencies and how social workers work with clients, such as Tessa or Luisa.

Cyber security emergency management

This week you have no readings as this is a continuous update. This week, I want you to do research on what makes the US most vulnerable across the world when it comes to our cyberinfrastructure. Please research several other countries and their interests in the US cyber infrastructure. What makes us vulnerable? What assets are being sought? Who is seeking these assets? What can other countries gain from their cyber attacks?

Intervention and ethical decision-making Nursing homework help

Over the ten years I have been a Registered Nurse, I have daily interactions with patients that both share and have a different worldview than I do. I find myself extremely lucky to work in a multicultural environment with co-workers, staff and patients that have many different religious cultural and overall worldviews. This environment has allowed me to understand other cultures a lot better, while being able to provide high quality care. An individual’s worldview of spirituality and faith affects, shapes impact their perspective (Grand Canyon University, 2018).

I feel that my strengths in facilitating spiritual care for patients with different worldviews than mine include being open minded, understanding and being compassionate. It is important to educate patients and families on the importance of certain medications, treatments or plans, however ultimately the patient always has the right to refuse. It is our job to provide the best education and information that we possibly can however, the patient and family has the right to choose, and it is our ultimate duty to respect their decision. My weakness in facilitating spiritual care for patients include not knowing every different spiritual view. Every day, I feel I learn something new about what others believe in or value. I find asking culturally appropriate questions are truly helpful. For the most part, people are very willing to share and open up about their beliefs and why and what they value in their lives. It is also important to assess the patient and family for spiritual needs which can include dietary or medical restrictions. At my hospital, this assessment is done upon admission and can be a very helpful tool.

For me personally, the person who would have the final say in terms of ethical decision-making and interventions in the event of a difficult situation would be my next of kin. At the moment, this role would go to my husband. I have found that regardless of cultures or religion, every family or individual is unique and has specific needs that are distinctive only to that person. It is essential that the nurse knows the needs of the individual patient in order to provide the best care possible.

When it comes to facilitating spiritual care for patients with worldviews different from your own, what are your strengths and weaknesses? If you were the patient, who would have the final say in terms of ethical decision-making and intervention in the event of a difficult situation?

Human capital to human resources strategy model in action

You have just graduated from Capella University’s MS in Human Resource Management program and are the director of HR at CapraTek. Your organization’s success is actually having some unintended consequences for the board of directors, as the company’s new reusable materials have now been purchased by NASA and many other private firms. The CEO is worried about the future of the organization. He is concerned he may lose employees, including senior scientists, and he does not know how to prevent it. You are ready to make a major change to address the future needs of the organization, and you have a great deal of leeway regarding how to approach this situation. Respond to the following:

How can you use the Human Capital to Human Resources Strategy Model in this CapraTek scenario? What elements of the model will you use?
Consider the reactions of current employees and leadership in your response. Provide depth and detail for your approach in handling this human capital management situation.
