In what ways were the roles of African American men significantly different from women before the Civil War?

In the 1930s, different historians, folklorists, and others as a part of the Works Progress Administration, made a point to interview the aging population of black Americans who were alive before the Civil War and remembered slavery. They collected more than 2,300 narratives and memoirs called the WPA American Slave Narratives. They are available in their entirety on the Library of Congress’s website. I am providing you with 11 selections of men and women telling their stories about life before the Civil War.

Your assignment is to write a 3 page essay examining the narratives I have provided answering this question: in what ways were the roles of African American men significantly different from women before the Civil War?

There are many ways to approach this essay, but my recommendation is to approach the topic thematically. Pick 2-3 themes, like family, work, or health, etc., create an argument and use the sources to support your argument.

Identify the major and supporting claims advanced in the article

Using either an editorial or an op-ed column in The New York Times or other
major daily newspaper as your basic text, you should first analyze the structure and
soundness of the argument and then advance an ethical evaluation of the argument.
Your essay should 1) identify the major and supporting claims advanced in the
article; 2) analyze both the argumentative support for the claims and, if relevant, the
relationship among claims advanced; 3) evaluate the cogency of the main claim advanced
(applying ARG conditions); and 4) evaluate the ethics of both the claim(s) advanced and
the argumentative moves made to advance the claim(s) (ie. ethics relative to both ends
sought and means used).
In your ethical evaluation, you should specify clearly the ethical criteria by
which you are rendering your evaluation and how those criteria are applied. Please
include a copy of the editorial that you analyze with your paper submission

Discuss at least three issues that Human resources must include in a workshop on career planning

Systematic self-assessment of values, interests
Several organizations have prepared workbooks to guide their employees individually through
systematic self-assessment of values, interests, abilities, goals and personal development plans.
Employees should be encouraged to assume responsibility for their own careers. Knowing which
career you want to pursue is an important first step to tackling your job search and career goals.
However, simply identifying an ideal position will not propel you to achieve these goals. A career
workshop can help you do just that. It can also help you learn how to make career decisions, set career
goals, create career options, seek career planning information, and at the same time build confidence
and self-esteem.
Ask peers and acquaintances about their career plans; also ask them how they arrived at their career
goals.
Consider the responses, as well as your own career plans and information gleaned from your textbook.
In your initial post:
Discuss at least three issues that Human resources must include in a workshop on career planning.
In your discussion, state why you feel these issues are critical in developing effective career
strategies.

Analyze and critisize ethical considerations in developmental psychology related to the creation and/or implementation of public policy regarding smoking bans or diet/exercise for children or adolescents.

Research at least two peer-reviewed articles that explore trends with regard to a debated behavior, either the effects of parental smoking on children/adolescents or childhood/adolescent obesity/diet and exercise . Evaluate the unique scholarly perspectives found in your research. In addition, appraise some of the public policies that have been enacted to counter the issues arising from second-hand smoke or poor nutrition/exercise habits on your selected developmental period. Suggest and describe additional or alternate policies that might be enacted to counter the negative aspects of such circumstances.

Using the APA’s Ethical Principles and Code of Conduct, analyze ethical considerations in developmental psychology related to the creation and/or implementation of public policy regarding smoking bans or diet/exercise for children or adolescents.

Is the creation of public policy necessary in this area?
Based on the professional standards, is the creation of such policies ethical?
Describe how these types of policies are effective.

In what ways do these policies enhance and/or hinder physical, cognitive, and/or psychosocial development for the affected person?
Are there equally effective self-imposed restrictions that might be used instead?
How would you implement your suggested policy, and how would you plan to test the efficacy of the policy versus self-imposed restrictions?
Use evidence from the resources to support your statements.
