Justice administration | Law homework help

ÿ
You are a supervising administrative officer in a criminal justice agency. You learn that Officer X has reportedly been fraternizing with another man?s spouse. The man returned to his home and found Officer X in his bedroom with his wife. The man then went to your agency to file a formal complaint against Officer X. It is a violation of your agency?s policy for officers to fraternize with the spouses of other people. Officer X was reportedly off duty at the time.
Administrative Scenario: You are in charge of the administrative investigation. You must identify legal, ethical, and moral character violations that occurred. Review the following interviews:

Interview 1

You interview Officer X, and he denies being in the man?s home with the man?s wife and fraternizing with her. Officer X said that Officer Y is his alibi. Officer X said that he was with Officer Y at Officer Y?s house when the alleged fraternization happened.ÿ

Interview 2

You interview Officer Y, and he initially verifies Officer X?s story. However, under interrogation, Officer Y changes his story, and he admits that he was not with Officer X and that he lied for Officer X because Officer X asked him to do so. Subsequently, Officer Y is no longer an alibi for Officer X.ÿ

Interview 3

You re-interview Officer X, and he continues denying fraternization and denies being in the man?s home with the man?s wife. However, when you tell Officer X that Officer Y admitted to lying for him, Officer X admits to you that he lied and that he did fraternize with the other man?s wife and that he was alone with her in her home.

In a 2-3-page paper, answer the following administrative questions:

Did a fraternization policy violation occur? What is the purpose of having and enforcing fraternization policies? Why do agencies have fraternization policies?
Did Officer X lie during the administrative investigation? Did Officer X encourage Officer Y to lie for him?

Is this merely an ethical issue, or does it also involve moral turpitude?
When does an ethical issue rise to the level of moral turpitude?
When does a moral issue rise to the level of criminality?

If the media find out about this investigation, what will the public expect you to do about it?
Sometimes, the cover-up is worse than the original act itself. As a criminal justice administrator, what is the best way to handle this kind of situation?

Character Analysis
For this discussion post, I would like us to focus on the first twenty pages of the play and what we know of Amber and Tom in these first twenty pages (there’s a lot, I know!). By now, you all have likely realized that the braided narrative and rapid shifts in storyline, voice, and tone are really challenging to follow in the play. At some points it can seem disorienting. When approaching previous works of literature, we examined themes and linked themes together throughout the works of literature. Themes are helpful for a play likeÿActually, but also helpful are character analyses where we provide a brief description of who a characterÿis in order to better understand the action taking place. If we were studying acting, we would call this method acting where we learn everything possible about the character to inhabit the role as fully as possible.
Initial Post
For your initial post, choose either Amber or Tom and describe her or his character traits in as much detail as you can. To support your descriptions, make sure to present evidence (meaning quotes) from the text to support your analysis. Consider identifying two or three character traits for which you can find multiple pieces of evidence. In a final paragraph, tell us what you have learned about Amber or Tom in process of writing your analysis.
Initial posts should be 250-300 words.

Tips on Writing the Paper

A philosophy paper consists of the reasoned defense of some claim

Your paper must offer an argument. It can’t consist in the mere report of your opinions, nor in a mere report of the opinions of the philosophers we discuss. You have toÿdefendthe claims you make. You have to offer reasons to believe them.
So you can’t just say:
My view is that P.
You must say something like:
My view is that P. I believe this because…or:ÿI find that the following considerations…provide a convincing argument for P.
Similarly, don’t just say:
Descartes says that Q.
Instead, say something like:
Descartes says that Q; however, the following thought-experiment will show that Q is not true…ÿor:ÿDescartes says that Q. I find this claim plausible, for the following reasons…
There are a variety of things a philosophy paper can aim to accomplish. It usually begins by putting some thesis or argument on the table for consideration. Then it goes on to do one or two of the following:

Criticize that argument; or show that certain arguments for the thesis are no good
Defend the argument or thesis against someone else’s criticism
Offer reasons to believe the thesis
Offer counter-examples to the thesis
Contrast the strengths and weaknesses of two opposing views about the thesis
Give examples which help explain the thesis, or which help to make the thesis more plausible
Argue that certain philosophers are committed to the thesis by their other views, though they do not come out and explicitly endorse the thesis
Discuss what consequences the thesis would have, if it were true
Revise the thesis, in the light of some objection

No matter which of these aims you set for yourself,ÿyou have to explicitly present reasons for the claims you make. Students often feel that since it’s clear to them that some claim is true, it does not need much argument. But it’s very easy to overestimate the strength of your own position. After all, you already accept it. You should assume that your audience doesÿnotÿalready accept your position; and you should treat your paper as an attempt to persuade such an audience. Hence, don’t start with assumptions which your opponents are sure to reject. If you’re to have any chance of persuading people, you have to start from common assumptions you all agree to.

A good philosophy paper isÿmodestÿand makesÿa small point; but it makes that point clearly and straightforwardly, and it offers good reasons in support of it

People very often attempt to accomplish too much in a philosophy paper. The usual result of this is a paper that’s hard to read, and which is full of inadequately defended and poorly explained claims. So don’t be over-ambitious. Don’t try to establish any earth-shattering conclusions in your 15-18 page paper. Done properly, philosophy moves at a slow pace.

Originality

The aim of these papers is for you to show that you understand the material and that you’re able to think critically about it. To do this, your paper does have to show some independent thinking.
That doesn’t mean you have to come up with your own theory, or that you have to make a completely original contribution to human thought. There will be plenty of time for that later on. An ideal paper will beÿclear and straightforwardÿ(see below), will be accurate when itÿattributes views to other philosophers(see below), and will contain thoughtful critical responses to the texts we read. It need not always break completely new ground.
But you should try to come up with your own arguments, or your own way of elaborating or criticizing or defending some argument we looked at in class. Merely summarizing what others have said won’t be enough.

Assignment Scenario
You are evaluating the mental health services provided to children by your agency. The agency provides trauma-informed counseling services to children and youth, ages 5?18. The agency’s goal is to have a relatively equal distribution of children and youth, in terms of ages, who seek services.
You will complete a frequency distribution of the number and ages of children who accessed services within your community agency over the past month. You will need to provide a histogram and summary of your analysis. Consider the implications of the findings as you plan for next year’s programming.
Assignment Instructions
Using the Unit 2 Dataset 2 given in the resources, respond to the following prompts:

Open the Unit 2 Dataset 2 file (given in the resources) in JASP.
Develop a histogram to demonstrate the number of children and their ages. Refer to the JASP Tutorial Video: Histograms and Pie Charts, given in the resources.
Consider that the main goal for using frequency distribution is to simplify large datasets. Graphs provide us with a tool to interpret the data. Addressing the prompts below, provide a brief narrative summary that you would provide to the Ray Foundation to describe the age of children and frequency of services used.

Interpret the data displayed in the histogram output graphs you created.

What trends do you see in the usage of mental health services?
How do these trends affect your planning for the program?
What would be your next steps if you wanted to see a representation of all age groups at your agency
