Understand the structure of biological macromolecules

A) describe the structures of proteins, lipids, carbohydrates and nucleic acids and

B) explain how condensation reactions result in the formation of these macromolecules from their respective monomers, and how hydrolysis reactions reverse this process.

2. Demonstrate how simple and complex carbohydrates are used for energy in humans

3. Explain the different ways proteins provide structure, immunity, communication and regulation in humans and the importance of first class proteins in child growth and development.

4. Outline how lipids are used for energy, in membranes, in fat soluble vitamins, hormones and in insulation.

5. Outline how DNA codes for different proteins
